What is the difference between sativa and indica?2018-04-25T19:28:17-07:00

Cannabis Sativa

Cannabis Sativas typically have a more uplifting high that brings energy to the consumer. This is the type of marijuana strain you usually smoke while out on social gatherings or events with your friends, or if you want to be productive around the house. This strain is wonderfully suited for day use and can often cause a cerebral high that will bring your mind pure energetic bliss.

This strain in pure form has a higher concentration of THC in comparison to its ratio of CBD.

Medical Benefits of Cannabis Sativa

Both Sativa and Indica have medical benefits but both have different effects on its users. Sativa tends to be more stimulant and is known to be more effective in treating:

  • Migraines
  • Chronic Pain
  • Nausea

Sativa cannabis strains tend to have a positive uplifting effect on its patients which often results in a psychoactive high. Most patients prefer to consume Sativa strains throughout the day.

Cannabis Indica

Indicas classically have a couch-lock high that serves as a wonderful strain for relaxation time, or to aid in falling asleep if you are having trouble getting enough rest at night. This cannabis strain works its magic especially during night use or the dark hours of the day. Feel calm, serene and intoxicated by this sultry and mellow strain.

Indica in pure form has a higher concentration of CBD in comparison to its ratio of THC, the opposite structure of what is occurring in the sativa plant.

Medical Benefits of Indica

Those of you that have been smoking for a while probably know that Indicas work wonders during the evening or before bed time. Indica strains are known to be sedatives and effective for treating:

  • Insomnia
  • Muscle spasms
  • Chronic pain
  • Anxiety

It’s the perfect sleeping pill and tends to bring on a sort of heaviness, which is comforting and relaxing at the same time.

What is BHO (Shatter, Budder, Crumble, Pull ‘n’ Snap, Sugar)?2018-04-25T19:55:17-07:00

Cannabis extracts and concentrates provide a way to harness the power of weed in its most intense form. BHO, or butane hash oil, is one of the cannabis concentrates that people enjoy because of its potent punch.

What is BHO? Let’s get the science out of the way first. BHO is an oleoresin, which are “semi-solid extracts composed of a resin in solution in an essential and/or fatty oil, obtained by evaporation of the solvent(s) used for their production. Naturally occurring oleoresins are also known as balsams”.

In everyday terms, that means that BHO is the substance that results when you pull cannabinoids out of the marijuana plant. This is done by butane extraction, and the result is a substance that ranges from oily or crumbly/sticky to hard and glassy. Terms for the finished product depend on its texture and appearance. BHO may be referred to as shatter, budder, pull ‘n’ snap, wax to name just a few.

The different forms of BHO are a result of post processing techniques and for the most part a gram of shatter will be provide the same effects as a gram of budder. This means that a preference for one particular type of BHO is usually due to how one likes to handle it based on its consistency. This of course does not take distillation into account.

BHO creates the same effects as other forms of cannabis, but those effects are greatly intensified with BHO. Getting a stronger high in a very short period of time is what makes BHO attractive to cannabis oil enthusiasts. Some describe it as a different type of high than the one they get from ingesting cannabis via more traditional methods.

What is Rosin?2018-04-25T19:54:38-07:00

Rosin refers to an extraction process that utilizes a combination of heat and pressure to nearly instantaneously squeeze resinous sap from your initial starting material. The term “rosin” originated as a method of making a product used to lubricate violin bows. With cannabis, this method is incredibly versatile in that it can either be used with flowers or to clean up hash and kief into a full-melt hash oil. The result is a translucent, sappy, and sometimes shatter-like product. If executed correctly, rosin can rival the flavor, potency, and yield of other solvent-based extraction products.

Why Is Rosin Gaining Popularity?

One reason for rosin’s newfound popularity is that it’s a solventless technique, meaning the process does not require use of any foreign substances. Instead, rosin uses a mechanical process involving heat and pressure to extract the resin from the plant. Other extraction methods utilize light hydrocarbons such as butane and/or propane. Often, these complex and mechanical systems require a lengthy purge to safely remove most, if not all of the residual solvents from the final product.

Rosin, on the other hand, simply uses heat and pressure and does not require any additional cleaning, so your final product is clean and ready in just minutes. When compared to BHO (butane hash oil), the two are aesthetically indistinguishable. Rosin, when made properly, retains just as many valuable terpenes that account for aroma and flavor. However, in a lab test, rosin will never contain a single parts per million (PPM) of residual hydrocarbon. In other words, you are essentially getting shatter without any solvents when using this process.

Rosin is typically more expensive than BHO products such as shatter or budder due to the lower yields (it takes more cannabis to make 1 gram of rosin than 1 gram of shatter) and higher labour costs to produce rosin.

My Rosin is gooey, what should I do?2018-04-25T23:31:16-07:00

Rosin can sometimes become hard handle in warmer temperatures as it becomes gooey and sticky on parchment paper. The easiest way to handle rosin when this happens is to simply stick it in the fridge or freezer for 10 or 15 seconds. When you remove the rosin, rather than pulling the folded parchment apart slowly, if it is done in a quick movement (taking care not to rip the paper), it is very easy to handle.

My shatter turned to wax/budder, now what?2018-05-15T11:27:51-07:00

Please be advised that due to circumstances that are out of our control, such as spring/summer heat, humidity and even time. There is always a risk that the shatter you ordered could turn to wax or budder by the time you receive it. Unfortunately, shatter turning to wax budder is not uncommon when exposed to heat but it does not make your shatter an less safe or any less potent in any way whatsoever. In fact, the terpenes and aromatics will be more present if this happens and the flavor will actually be increased. We do not offer any reimbursement or refunds if your shatter turns to budder or wax.
